Water treatment ecommerce case study

Ecommerce Water Treatment Products

Background

Our client is a nationwide B2B distributor of industrial and commercial water treatment products and services such as water softeners, filters, reverse osmosis systems, UV systems, valves, media and the like, to a wide variety of customers such as hotels, schools, leisure centres, breweries, factories, hospitals, commercial buildings and more.

The website is ecommerce and plays a crucial role in revenue generation, lead generation and marketing activity in what is a competitive field so being found in search engines is critical to their success.

The previous website ranked poorly in search engines largely due to poor website architecture, URL structure, page and product optimisation, a misunderstanding of how SEO worked, on-page SEO, titles, headings and content, and all the good things that go in to a well-optimised site. A rather dated design also didn’t help.

It was time for an update.

How We Helped

We completely revamped the site.

Starting with a completely new wesbite architecture and reorganisation of products we built the site according to how people were likely to search and navigate, creating rich and informative product pages (which constitute the bulk of the site) with associated and relevant tables and reference guides.

Templates were set up that made it much easier for staff to add products in an SEO-friendly way knowing where to add content, and why.

Images were greatly improved creating many diagramatic images from scratch and using high quality, high resolution images that made the site look fresh and inviting and provided a much better user experience.

Products were named and categorised sensibly using data from keyword research meaning they were well optimised, and were placed in a logical navigation which transformed the user journey.

Outcome

Ecommerce sales have grown 16x over four years!

Without wanting to divulge confidential information let’s say online sales in 2021 were £10,000. In 2024 they turned over £160,000 online notwithstanding an increased number of offline phone calls, emails and enquiries they had.

By completely revamping their site – giving it a massive overhaul – we have transformed their online sales. Creating a more user-friendly design along with it being much better optimised they now not only rank for many more keywords but also rank very well for very popular branded and non-branded, generic keywords in their sector which has driven incremental ecommerce growth.

Well-optimised templates have enabled staff to regularly add more content and see results, often within days.
